Curling news from CurlTV for 2008-2009 Season

Hello everyone, no not curling yet but will be in two months, so here some interesting world curling news:

CurlTV.com reports that: BRAZIL TO CHALLENGE FOR SPOT AT WORLDS
Surprise move from South American Nation
The World Curling Federation has announced a challenge from a South American member association for a berth in the World Championships.

Brazil, best known for beaches, the samba and Carnival, will try their hand at curling and have issued a challenge against the United States for a berth in the upcoming 2009 Ford World Men’s Curling Championship.

Two teams represent the Americas Zone which includes both North and South America. Since the inception of the world championships, the only two WCF member associations to represent the Americas have been Canada and the United States. The team which finished lowest out of the two in any worlds has always been open to a challenge from any other member association, and it has finally happened.

This is a serious challenge as all five Brazilian nationals are currently studying at the University of Sherbrooke in Quebec and training at the Lennoxville Curling Club.

The United States will host the best-of-five challenge over a three day competition in January 2009 with the winner advancing to the World Championship in Moncton, New Brunswick.
